Techno Beams

Post by Flaps »

Is one of the Techno beams still playing up. One had a dodgy colour wheel- it lost its position after a while. I have had a chat with our fixture specialist and he reckons that its the motor or the drive chip having problems with the heat. This is why the problem ios not seen on startup.

If this is the case, i can get my hands on the spares and can bring them up, after all we do make them. Please let me know how it is behaving and i will see what i can bring.

There has been a few problems like that with the "north" techno beam, where the colour wheel goes out of alignment every so often (but it is rare). Nothing a reset doesn't fix.

Guys is this still the case or is only one playing up. If i am to bring the correct spare parts would be nice to know exactly what is wrong/which ones are wrong.

Cheers

i was speaking to helen earlier about this and she's gonna go thru each of the lights and see whats wrong.. two of the prowash had died, so she's gonna find out if they are still under warenty before you come up (we'll try work out whats wrong with them this week)

Studio 4 are bring back Movitec 4 (or is it 3) on tuesday and will have to take away another couple to fix then.

The Prowashes will not be under manufacturer warranty. This is probably an internal fuse on the main board. However you could check the mains fuse. if this is blown, you replace the fuse turn it on and it blows straight away again then this is the ballast which needs replacing. Try this as soon as poss, as if this is what it is, they can be ordered and i will show you how to replace them. A bit pernicity but not too hard.

The movitecs- the one losing its position needs a new drive chip/sensore no doubt, the one which is turning itself off probably needs its fans checked/cleaned- if this has been done then a little creative tinkering with its heat sensor will fix it. The one which is unreliable on start up ie will n ot strike is probably a failing lamp. It is unlikely to be the ignitor or the balast. Although you could drop the rig and try and strike the lamp, if you here a click then it is trying to strike which normally means the ignitor is fine.

I am afraid i can only provide spares for the highend gear, so the rest will have to be sourced from somewhere else.

Thanks for getting back so soon for all these things. We did try changing the mains fuse in ProWash, but didn't make any difference, and they are timed fuses so if it was them then it should have at least spluttered a bit first shouldn't it? We had a quick peek inside to see if it was anything obvious, but we couldn't see anything blown etc, so you'll need to look at them. However it does seem a bit funny that both of the ones on the stage rig are donig it, so maybe a power surge of some sort? I don't know, I'm sure you'll be able to identify the problem.

I think we've already checked everything with Movitechs that we can, although I suppose we should find out what's wrong with them properlly if poss b4 the Studio4 dude turns up. So Helen, or Rich, (& Niall - I'm not sure if you were shown them were you? If not come along, as can others) either of you fancy looking at the broken ones? If you can, when?

tha mains fuse was fine, the "wee orange light" on the power switch came on when we switched it on. our guess is its prolly either the transformer or the ballast thats gone (or an internal fuse)... which with the fact that both are gone it is more than likely there has been a power surge.

richard - i was shown inside the technobeams and movitecs when flaps was up in september (or october, sometime then when we went for afternoon tea!)... i'm not really free, but the best time to do anything would be to get the rig down this afternoon and remove all 7 of them as there will be chairs out on tuesday when he comes so we cant put them back up...

Unlikely to be the ballast as a blown ballast results in the fuse blowing in a rather spectacular manner on startup of the fixture.

It sounds more likely to be a fuse on the main board then. If the fuse on the main board goes then the rest of the fixture will not work. The way to check if the tranny is working is to turn the fixture on and meter the terminals on the transformer. Try not to electrocute yourself though eh! Anyhow i will have look on Sunday is suppose.

If Studio 4 are comming in tomorrow, the only time I could get in today would be about 8pm {I have a lot of work to catch up on since City of Angels}, but I wouldn't like to be there myself. Maybe Rich, Helen, Niall and anyone else interested could arrange to go at that time if poss (I'd greatly prefer someone ekse's presence there).

Text me when something morer solidly has been arranged.
