We get green material and attach green aluminium leaf cut outs. We hang it
1) On the trussing to make a ceiling, as well as down the wall side of the trussing
2) Over the scrim above the trussing (or get a green light to go behind the scrim)
3) From where the scrim above the trussing finishes over the space frame ? so most of the red space frame is covered.
Give pin spots green filters
We cover the trussing itself to look like tree trunks/branches (cardboard?)
We cover the low tables in the trussing area with brown table cloths made to look like tree stumps
We hang scrim wherever we can and shine green light onto it (maybe over speakers?) ? if we can get some cammoflage netting use that too.
We make/buy birds and hang them from the space frame and shine a few profiles on them
We make/buy monkeys and attach them to the trussing
Put light green gels in blinders
Continue theme in the corridor
Get a bit of old wood and burn/paint "explorers lodge" or something similar and put it above/next to the main bar, same but with something like "waterhole" for the beer bar
Ask punters to come as explorers/jungle animals
We also build a centrepiece ? A creature 10-15 ft high on the floor, or smaller coming off the stage made from paper mache, cardboard, wood, etc. We outfit it with lights in the eyes, a red light in the mouth. We would have to make sure it is well ventilated and the lights are as cool as possible. Could we flameproof it somehow?
For music, keeping it cheesy as usual, but maybe putting in some animal themed songs? Bloodhound gang ? Ain?t nothing but mammals, Hendrix ? wild thing, Steppenwolf ? born to be wild, Survivor - eye of the tiger. Anything from Lion king, jungle book etc
Some things need to be worked out ? like how to stop the creature catching on fire. I also would like to do something with the octagon, perhaps attaching vines to it? Anyway, anyone know if this is remotely possible (Cost, time, effort, health and safety) and whether anyone but me thinks it would look good? Any ideas for addition? Or am I just plain barmy?

Hey,
You've got my support. It sounds like a cool idea to dress up the venue in this way. I couldn't comment on the feasibility of it though it all sounds like a lot of decorating work in some areas.
Perhaps an idea for that: are there any charities that haven't done a bop yet? Maybe one of them would like to 'present' a bop (ie get them to help with decorating and in return they get their name on the screens / advertising).
As for timing, there won't be proper bops again until February so that gives you plenty of time to think.
I'm thinking
Kool & The Gang : Jungle Boogie
The Lion Sleeps Tonight - Perhaps Rory could make an appearance...

Yea, it would be a massive job, but i think your idea of a charity is spot on. If a charity could make the green fabric with leaves, the fines, the birds, the monkeys etc i think that theoreticaly it wouldnt be too hard to put up or take down, i would guess it would take a day to put up. As for the paper mache creature i am wondering if even if it were fesable whether it would be worth the hassle and maybe going for more smaller features (more monkeys, birds, fines, camoflage nets) would be more effective. However i do think we would need something done on stage, maybe hanging some more green leaf fabric on the back and on the nivos

I would think that there will be at least one in January - what else do students do after their last examination and before the skiing holiday?!deborah wrote:if the next bop isn't til february, we can mess about with it in all that lovely free time after exams, and make stuff (or get a charity to do it - like they were my MINIONS! mwahaha )

The question is which charity has enough Minions and wants to do something around february... Maybe some sort of eco charity/society?deborah wrote:if the next bop isn't til february, we can mess about with it in all that lovely free time after exams, and make stuff (or get a charity to do it - like they were my MINIONS! mwahaha )
